Information for Advanced PODD workshop participants

The Advanced PODD training aims to build on your current knowledge, build fluency using PODD communication books, refine observational assessment and implementation planning and provide opportunities for problem-solving more complex challenges.

Preparation prior to training:

This is your opportunity to influence the content of the training. Send your issues and questions related to implementing PODD. Email to: gayle.porter@me.com & linda@lindaburkhart.com

Instructions for Volunteering a Case Study:

Meet with your team and identify a student that will provide participants with opportunities to observe current communication and plan further assessment-intervention. Difficulties are welcome!

To prepare a case study you will need:

  1. Short video clips of child interacting with a familiar partner
    May include trying out strategies
    May include successes as well as problems to trouble shoot
  2. Background information: age, diagnosis, family/social networks, educational setting, vision, hearing, other health challenges. Include previous communication learning opportunities / AAC systems, current communication capabilities, and comments regarding what supports and what limits current communication

*Remember to gain appropriate permissions to share this information, video and discuss the child’s communication requirements at the workshop. 

Due to limited time, a few case studies will be selected to represent a range of implementation issues. Therefore some of the prepared case studies may not be presented during the five-day training. To support the instructors planning for the workshops, All proposals for case studies must be received by: December 21, 2017 – NOTE: Date may be extended by special permission – email for details
